Wahng-Shan Chang received his Ph. D. in philosophy from the Ruhr-University Bochum (Germany) in 1992. The bulk of his teaching is in political philosophy, philosophy of social science and modern European Philosophy (Hegel, Dilthey, Nietzsche, Marx and Weber). His research interests lie primarily at the rise and nature of modern state, Nietzsche and Max Weber.
Professor Chang’s dissertation is entitled „Kulturwirklichkeit und Kulturwissenschaft: Zur Methoden- und Wertlehre Max Webers“ (Bochum: Ruhr-University 1992). He has recently published papers (in Chinese) on topics like „Carl Schmitt’s Decisionism”, “State and the Reason of State”, “Max Weber’ ‘Polytheism of value’”, “Sovereignty” and “Dilthey’s Hermeneutics”. His translation of Max Weber’s Gesammelte Aufsätze zur Wissenschaftslehre was published in 2013.
